Warm Wednesday: Heat & Humidity Remind Us It's Still August

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Another sultry day is in store for the Delaware Valley on Wednesday. Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures are once again expected to reach 90. That would make it only the third day to reach it during August, and could be the last! Philadelphia averages twenty-three 90 degree days during the summer. As of today, we've only reached 90 sixteen times this season.
Taking a look at the big picture, a weak cold front will be moving through later this evening. It will bring with it a few showers and maybe a rumble of thunder, but for the most part there is not a lot of moisture associated with it and most places will stay dry as a result. However, it will be strong enough to nudge Hurricane Cristobal further out to sea. That being said, the risk for rip currents is still high today along the Jersey and Delaware Beaches.
The end of the week will be dry and pleasant, with lots of sunshine, cooler temperatures, and lower humidity!

On this day in weather history...
1971 - An F2 tornado formed in Cape May County and moved into Atlantic Co. The funnel then lifted and re-formed as an F1 near Atlantic City. This tornado was associated with tropical storm Doria. Doria was a tropical depression moving NW through the Bahamas, and became a tropical storm E of Florida. The storm recurved along the coast from NC to NJ then moved into New England. On the 27th, Philadelphia received 4.77" of rain and NYC 4.16", both daily records. The heavy rains of Doria caused record flooding the next day, which we will talk about tomorrow.
