Volunteers Needed To Get Drunk On Police Department's Dime

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Who wants to get drunk and have the cops pay for it?

Yes, you read that line correctly!

The Newtown Township Police Department in Delaware County is looking for volunteers to consume alcoholic beverages on their dime.

However, there is a catch.

The department is conducting a field sobriety coordination testing school for officers seeking to obtain the certification which will allow them to use various techniques while enforcing the DUI laws in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

As a result, they are looking for 20 volunteers to consume alcohol beverages under their supervision.

On the department's Facebook page, it says "upon reaching various levels of intoxication, the volunteers will be asked to perform 3 field sobriety coordination tests which officers will administer."

The volunteers will be needed on May 6th and 7th from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the BPG Conference Center in Newtown Square.

Volunteers may not be over the age of 55, 45 pounds or more over weight or on any medication that has negative reactions with alcohol.

The department says all dosing of alcoholic beverages will be monitored and food, including pizza, and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.

If you are interested in volunteering, you are asked to contact PFC Joseph Vandegrift at vandegriftj@newtowntownship.org or call 610-356-0602 voice mail #135.
