University Of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital Lobby Gets A Makeover

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Going to the vet is not something that most owners or pets enjoy doing.

But with everything from a coffee bar to state of the art LED lighting, the newly renovated $1.5 million Penn Veterinary Hospital lobby helps make that experience a little better.

"When they're waiting to be taken care of, there are a lot of nooks and crannies where however friendly your pet is or however much you would like there to be quiet you can find a place to sit, where you and your pet have exactly the amount of social contact you would like," says Penn Veterinary Dean Joan Hendricks.

Hendricks says the lobby's new look welcomes guests from all walks of life.

"For a lot of places, having a celebrity human come in is exciting," she says. "We've had the governor, we've had the mayor and we've had Oprah, but boy when you get a Galapagos tortoise in here you've never seen such a crowd. A zoo animal really gets us excited."

Hendricks says the lobby is now reflective of the great work the doctors and the hospital do.
