Uber Philadelphia Says Thank You To Its Drivers With a Lunch

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some drivers for the Internet-based car service company Uber were treated to lunch today in North Philadelphia as part of the company's "partner appreciation day."

There are about 1,000 Uber drivers in North Philadelphia alone, according to Jon Feldman, the general manager of Uber Philadelphia.

He says today's lunch of Latin food at a Colombian restaurant on North Fifth Street was the company's way to show appreciation for the drivers, whom they call "partners."

"Uber itself is a technology company, and we connect riders in the community with the drivers," he explains, "so these are all people running their own business out on the road.  We have both Uber Black [limousine grade] and Uber X [basic car] partners."

Aziz Wardigee has been driving for the company for a couple of years and likes the way it operates.

"Uber system is always trying to see where is the problem; what the people they work with and they share with with, what is their experience?  And it's always a good thing in any company to be close to customers or the people you partner with," he said today.
