Traffic Alert: Rt. 42 NB Lanes To Close Tonight And Tomorrow Night

LINDENWOLD, NJ (CBS) – According to Camden County Freeholder Ian Leonard, NJDOT plans to close all lanes of Route 42 northbound in Bellmawr tonight and Tuesday night.

Officials say the closures will begin at 8 p.m. with a single lane, then at 10 p.m. two lanes will be closed and by 11 p.m. all lanes will be shut down. They will reopen each day at 5 a.m.

"This is a significant closing of the most heavily traveled thoroughfare in Camden County," says Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works.

The lanes will close near the Creek Road overpass for wood sheeting placement under bridge beams.

Leonard adds, "The traffic delays caused by the merging of these roadways are a daily nightmare for motorists each rush hour. The state is undertaking a monumental change to this highway interchange by creating a substantial upgrade to the current configuration.  It also has a significant impact on Camden County motorists and several municipalities."

Officials say as a detour, all traffic will be detoured onto the Exit 1B ramp to I-295 northbound and then to Exit 27, which is a left exit, to get back onto Route 42 northbound/I-76 westbound.
