Tires Slashed On 13 Vehicles In South Philadelphia; Suspect In Custody

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than a dozen car owners in South Philadelphia woke up Saturday morning to find the tires on their vehicles slashed.

Police say they received a call shortly before 2 a.m. about a man slashing tires in the 1700 block of Christian Street in the city's the Graduate Hospital neighborhood.

Responding officers arrived to find a man with a knife, matching the suspect's description, sitting on the ground next to a car.  Officers then discovered thirteen vehicles on the block with slashed tires.

Neighbor Dominique Johnson woke up to find two flat tires on her car.

"It's interesting. It's weird," Johnson said, "I'm wondering what the person was thinking."

The 54-year-old suspect, who was not immediately identified, was taken into custody.

There was no initial word on a motive or charges.
