Thousands Get In Holiday Spirit With Annual Santa Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thousands of people dressed as Santa Saturday evening, running from The Field House bar to the Electric Factory music venue in celebration of the holiday season.

Kirk Ryan with Philadelphia's Running of the Santa's said this event has certainly evolved over the years.

"It's been going on for about 20 years," Ryan said.  "It started with 40 people and we're up to about 8,000."

One participant said they drink at one bar for a few hours before running about seven blocks to the next venue.

"It's basically (like) running of the bulls but with no bull and a bunch of happy Santa's."

But not everyone was dressed as Santa.

"There's an elf! There's a polar bear! Like people just go crazy and it's so funny!"

And not everyone runs.

"I just like jog and I like walk fast-pace."
