Survey Finds Many NJ Businesses Having Difficulty Providing Health Care Insurance For Employees

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A newly released survey of businesses in New Jersey finds many are having greater difficulty providing health care insurance for their employees.
There's good and bad news in the report from the New Jersey Business and Industry Association.
Christine Stearns, Vice President for Health and Legal Affairs, says "Employers remain committed to provide coverage for their employees. Unfortunately, the high cost of purchasing health insurance seems to be threatening the ability for them to be able to afford that coverage."
That cost, last year, averaged $7,400 for a single worker, just over 19,000 for a family. Stearns says small business owners saw their costs rise 24 percent, prompting many to either take the hit themselves or force workers into higher co-pays and premiums or smaller, maybe no raises.
