SEPTA Board Chairman Urges Union To Engage In Good Faith Negotiations

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Another Frustrating Evening Commute As SEPTA Strike Continues The negotiations seem to be taking a fiery turn in light of the remarks.

Deon expressed that a strike should only occur as a last resort and he added that once it begins, there needs to be a sense of urgency to end the strike to ease the burden on city commuters.

"On several occasions this week, SEPTA negotiators believed progress toward a deal had been made. However, at each of those seemingly positive turns, TWU Local 234 has brought a halt to negotiations," Deon said in a statement.

Another Frustrating Evening Commute As SEPTA Strike Continues

He expressed that SEPTA has bargained with urgency and good faith, presenting "fair offers," which he said have been rejected by the union.

Deon expressed that SEPTA addressed the union's biggest concern, pensions, by proposing an entirely new plan which he said would increase benefits for the union members in addition to wage increases.

SEPTA has also requested that the union suspends their strike for Election Day if not agreement is reached.
