Second Raccoon Tests Positive For Rabies In Camden County

CAMDEN (CBS) -- A raccoon removed from a residence in the Fairview neighborhood of Camden City has tested positive for rabies.

This is the second raccoon that officials have tested positive for the infection in Camden County.

Officials say back on April 20, a family dog of a Camden household fought and killed a raccoon. (See Previous Story)

Three days later, the Camden County Health Department received confirmation that the animal was rabid.

Officials say after hearing this information, a resident reported a sick and dying raccoon in the same area. Camden City Animal Control picked up the animal and arranged for rabies testing.

On May 2, the Health Department was notified the raccoon was rabid.

Camden County officials urge anyone with questions to visit the CDC website on rabies or call the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services at 856-374-6370.
