Search Continues For Missing Philadelphia Man

By Matt Rivers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police find a missing man's car burning in North Philadelphia, but where he is remains a mystery.

His car was found nearly nine miles away from the Northeast Philadelphia restaurant where he was last seen.

Sixty-nine-year-old Vito Maglio has been missing since Sunday night and now the case is being handled by the Special Investigations Unit at Northeast Detectives.

"We're a very tight knit family and just know that we are looking for him in any way we can," said niece Maria Marsico.

Maglio disappeared after leaving this restaurant. He was a regular at Macaroni's, an Old Bustleton Avenue spot owned by two of his nephews. Where he went after that is anyone's guess.

"At this point we just want closure. We want to know what happened, where he is. We just want him here," said daughter Lucia Maglio.

A troubling clue emerged Thursday morning. Vito's car was found burning in North Philadelphia. He was not inside, but the fire left scorch marks on the 5800 block of Beechwood.

"We're going through all the scenarios of what could have happened and its just really difficult," said Maglio.

Made tougher by the fact that all these people love him and say he was a good man with a kind heart. His absence is strongly felt, just days before Christmas.

"It didn't matter who you were, if you needed something he would do it for you," said Maglio.

"If he is out there or somebody has him, please just bring him home. That's all we want. We just want him home," said Marsico.

Anyone who knows anything about Vito's disappearance is asked to call Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153 / 54 or call 911.
