Sam Hinkie Steps Down From Post With Sixers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sixers General Manager and President of Basketball Operations, Sam Hinkie, is stepping down from his posts with the team.
Sixers Owner Josh Harris released the following statement on Wednesday night:
"This evening, Sam Hinkie notified the organization that he has elected to step down as President of Basketball Operations and General Manager. While we are disappointed in Sam's decision, we would like to sincerely thank him for his contributions over the past three seasons. There is no question that Sam's work has put us in a very strong position to take advantage of numerous opportunities for an exciting future."
Hinkie joined the Sixers in 2011 and quickly made his mark by trading away point guard Jrue Holiday in a deal that brought the Sixers Nerlens Noel and set in motion the team's current philosophy of sacrificing wins today for opportunities at draft picks.
The Sixers and Hinkie appear to be parting ways as the team prepares for a draft where they have the highest odds of gaining the number one overall selection.
Earlier this season, the Sixers brought in Jerry Colangelo to be the team's Chairman of Basketball Operations.
