Prosecutors: Camden County Man Killed Couple, Tried To Sell Victim's Ring

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors say a man accused of killing a couple in their Camden home stole the woman's engagement ring and tried to sell it.

Gary Johnson of Camden was arraigned Tuesday on murder charges in the deaths of 23-year-old John Valerio and 25-year-old Aleshia Hill. He wasn't represented by an attorney.

Police found the couple inside their home on April 4, and they were pronounced dead there a short time later. Officers had gone to the residence after receiving a 911 call.

Prosecutors say the ring, cash and cellphones were missing when the victims' bodies were found. Witnesses told investigators that the 37-year-old Johnson had been seen trying to sell a ring that looked like Hill's.

Prosecutors say Johnson had gone to the residence to rob the couple.
