Police, School Officials Investigating After Student Brings Starter Pistol On School Bus In Gloucester County

FRANKLINVILLE, NJ (CBS) – School officials and police are investigating after a student reportedly tried to bring a starter pistol to school earlier this week.

The incident reportedly happened on Dec. 2nd, when the child reportedly brought the pistol on the school bus in Gloucester County.

A police investigation later confirmed the gun was a starter pistol that was unable to fire a projectile. A starter pistol is a gun that is fired to start competitive races, such as track and field or swimming races.

"The Township of Franklin School District is committed to providing a safe and secure educational environment for all students. School officials, in cooperation with the local authorities, continually review, update and drill school safety procedures. Student safety remains top priority," said Troy Walton, Superintendent, in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
