Police Investigating New Year's Eve Burglaries In Lower Makefield

LOWER MAKEFIELD Twp., Pa., (CBS) – Police are investigating five burglaries they say happened on New Year's Eve in Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County.

According to police, three burglaries occurred in the Meadowbrook/Stony Hill Homes developments and two occurred in the Woodlands development, about a mile apart from one another.

Investigators say all of the burglaries occurred after 9 p.m. while the homeowners were out and entry was gained through the rear door of each home.

Police say while investigating one of the burglaries neighbors informed detectives of another home that was vacant.  Detectives checked the home and discovered that it had also been burglarized.

"The burglar or burglars get in there and they look for jewelry. They bypass electronics, bypass other items, and go right for the jewelry," said Lower Makefield Township Police Chief Kenneth Coluzzi.

According to investigators, jewelry seems to the primary items taken in all of the burglaries, including two identical necklace/pendants with the Phillies symbol surrounded by stones in a heart with a woman's name engraved on the rear of each pendant, a gold and pearl necklace and a gold coin communion bracelet.

Investigators say the thieves got away with more than $100,000 in jewels.

Police are asking jewelers to be especially alert for persons presenting these unique items.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lower Makefield Police at 215-493-4055.
