Philly Man Charged With 5 Suburban Robberies
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia man was charged in connection with five suburban robberies.
Police allege that 26-year-old Lamar Sowell has robbed three different 7-Elevens in Philadelphia, Glenside and Abington since 2014 -- hitting the Abington location on Limekiln Pike in 2015 and again in 2016.
He's also accused of robbing a the Sunoco station on the 300 block of South Easton Road in Glenside.
According to officials, Sowell brandished a handgun in four of the five robberies. It was the final robbery on April 5, 2016 that authorities say he fired a gun, striking a 7-Eleven employee and shattering the victim's femur.
Sowell was charged with five counts of robbery and four counts of using and carrying a firearm in those robberies.
If convicted he could face a maximum possible sentence of life behind bars, a mandatory term of 82 years' imprisonment consecutive to all other sentences, five years supervised release, a fine of more than $2.2 million and a $900 Special Assessment.
