Phillies To Start Phasing In Metal Detectors At Citizens Bank Park

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Starting in three weeks, Phillies fans for the first time will have to go through metal detectors to enter Citizens Bank Park.

"We are talking about airport-style metal detectors, an archway that our fans will have to walk through," says Phillies director of operations and security Sal DeAngelis.

He says the team on July 21st is launching a pilot program at the Right Field Gate as fans enter for that night's game against San Francisco.

"They should be prepared, when they come to our gates, to take out of their pockets, cell phone, camera or any large metal item that they might have on them. That's it. You're going to put that into a dish, pass it through."

De Angelis says there will be metal detectors at all ballpark gates next season, as part of a league-wide security move.
