One South Jersey Town Helps Parents Of Special Needs Children Navigate Resources Available
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Parents of special needs children in South Jersey gathered Saturday for a conference to learn about different available resources, they may not have known they had.
Jill Greenberg-Kail is a Civil Rights Attorney and advocate for people with disabilities emphasizes the importance of communication.
"In New Jersey, we have a lot of problems including children with special needs," Greenberg-Kail said. "We like to put them in self-contained settings with only their special needs peers."
Greenberg-Kail organized the annual Cherry Hill's Free Conference for Parents of Children with Special Needs.
"The child with special needs can't always meet the same milestones or expectations, it often takes the parent to reach to the child."
She says the primary focus is to help parents navigate and identify resources available to them, like financial planning, fire safety strategies and improving relationships.
"We are becoming the best date for that child to get them as far as they can travel."
