Oink Oink! Rescue Group Hosts 'Piggypalooza' In Bucks County

By Jim Melwert

JAMISON, Pa. (CBS) - A unique event today in Bucks County raises money for a group that finds homes for domesticated pigs.

"Piggypalooza" at Ross Mill Farm in Jamison is a major fundraiser for the Pig Placement Network. President Susan Magidson says a pet pig certainly isn't for everyone, but:

"They're very very smart and with that intelligence comes a real emotional being."

Almost like a child, Magidson says. And contrary to stereotypes, she says "they're so clean and tidy, they quickly learn to go to the bathroom outside."

But, she says, they are not good at climbing steps, it can be hard to find vet care and they need time outdoors to graze. She says her organization will get upwards of 400 calls just this year from people looking to give up a pet pig.

Piggypalooza features music, entertainment and piggy painting.

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
