New Jersey Tests Hurricane Evacuation

EGG HARBOR, N.J. (AP) — Officials in New Jersey are testing how they would evacuate people if a hurricane threatened the state.

Motorists on Thursday will state troopers and Transportation Department crews on several major highways throughout the state. The roads include the Atlantic City Expressway, Garden State Parkway, Interstate 195, Route 72, Route 47 and Route 347.

The main purpose of the drill is to prepare to reverse the flow of traffic using message boards, cones and barrels in order to move traffic away from the coast.

No roads will be closed during the drill.
