New Jersey Ban On Single-Use Plastic Straws Goes Into Effect Thursday

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- Starting Thursday, people in New Jersey will be getting their drinks without a straw. Single-use plastic straws will now only be given upon request.

This is due to a state law passed last year that also bans single-use plastic carryout bags, as well as Styrofoam products. Those rules go into effect May 2022.

People can still buy packs of straws in stores.
