Meet The Granny Handymen: Veterans Helping Seniors

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Two Chester County marines are helping hundreds of grandmothers with their "honey do lists," part of an effort they call "I Heart Granny."

Earlier this year, veterans Valen Cianni and Richard Lorah decided they wanted to give back to the community: "We would always talk about our grandmothers and all of the elderly folks we would help out when we were kids."

So they started Granny Handymen, Inc. in May, to help seniors 60 and older living in Chester County.

"We help them out with small handyman tasks." Tasks that range from changing light bulbs, to putting together furniture, to installing a flat screen TV.

"It's awesome," they say. "We spend the first half hour just talking to them."

And their services are free. They volunteer their time and tools and use their own cars.

They've helped nearly 400 seniors in less than a year and they're holding a fundraiser in Phoenixville on Monday to buy a pick up truck.
