Low Income Students To Receive Free Tuition Ride At Rutgers-Camden
CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- A new aid program will give low-income students at Rutgers-Camden a free ride on tuition.
New first-year Rutgers-Camden students with household incomes of $60,000 or less would get a grant covering any tuition not paid for by other government grants.
Those with incomes between $60,000 and $100,000 would have half of their tuition bills paid. No special application is necessary.
Rutgers-Camden associate chancellor for enrollment management, Craig Westman, says all students have to do is fill out their federal FAFSA form.
"That automatically if you fall within those bands that we talked about -- $0 to $60,000, $60,001 to $100,000, it will automatically kick in."
Westman says the program is aimed at reducing student debt and reducing the need for students to work outside of school.
He says the university has budgeted money to fund the financial aid program. Rutgers says this is the first such program among New Jersey's four-year colleges.
Only New Jersey residents who graduate high school in 2016 and then begin at Rutgers-Camden next fall are eligible.
