Local Organization Strives To Educate Young Women On Advocacy And Grantmaking

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Women's Way is on the lookout for young women who are interested in spending money for a good cause.

It's called the Philly Girls Fund and it's a grant making circle for high school girls.

"Girls have something to say and they are the experts on their own lives," says Debasri Gosh, spokesperson for Women's Way.

She says their goal is to get young women to identify the issues facing girls, as well as possible solutions, and then teach them how grants can help.

"Educating the participating girls on what philanthropy is, how philanthropy can be a tool for social change, along with training on financial literacy, site visits and budgets or the nuts and bolts of grant making," says Gosh.

She says the girls will send out a request for proposal, vet applications and make the ultimate funding decisions for grants.

Deadline to apply for the Philly Girls Fund is August 28th.
