Local Nonprofit Creates Web Tool To Help Parents Find Pre-K Child Care Programs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The nonprofit Great Philly Schools has launched a new web tool to help parents choose early-childhood programs.
"It is extra hard to find great child care programs on your own," says parent Rachel Honore.
So Honore says it's especially helpful that GreatPhillySchools.org now has a tab to compare pre-K programs.
Sharon Easterling of the Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children says parents can sort by location, accreditation and cost:
"Out of more than 2,000 programs in Philadelphia, less than 350 are able today to qualify to be listed on the site."
Speaking at a program at a West Philadelphia center, Superintendent William Hite says studies show quality pre-K gives kids a better chance to graduate high school and less of a chance they'll be involved in crime:
"If we could only do one thing to change the trajectory of student outcomes, it is this thing."
