LGBTQ 'Wall Of Love' Blocks Hate Generated By Westboro Baptist Church

CENTER CITY (CBS) -- Philadelphia LGBTQ community came out in full force on Tuesday when they heard they were going to be the target of the notoriously hateful Westboro Baptist Church.

The entire 800 block of Locust Street, where the Mazzoni Center is located was packed with people rallying for the LGBTQ community. Deja Lynn Alvarez was one of the organizers of this so-called 'Wall of Love.'

"We found out that the Westboro Baptist Church was coming here to protest against Mazzoni Center's transgender clinic," Lynn Alvarez said.

Only four protesters showed up from the Westboro Baptist Church, and they quickly left.

"We're a community! As many people that have tried to stop us, they're not stopping us," she said.

The counter-protest quickly turned into a celebration.

"I'm just super proud of my city in this moment," one supporter told KYW Newsradio.
