KYW Flashback: Flyers Fans Take Over The Town In Celebration

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - In a cluttered junk yard, you might come across a 41-year-old KYW mobile unit. You'll know it by the dents and footprints on the roof.

Blame it on the Philadelphia Flyers 1974 squad. They won the Stanley Cup that year.

Bernie Parent was the local hero and Philadelphia had never seen such an exuberant sports celebration.

The question of whether two million people showed up is still being debated. But the fans not only followed along from South Philly to City Hall and then Independence Mall, but they danced in the streets.

When the parade bogged down, they danced on the cars. That explains the roof. But to the reporter at the wheel the din sounded like thunder overhead.

The Flyers did it again a year later.
