Human remains found in Wissinoming home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Human remains were found in the basement of a home in Philadelphia's Wissinoming neighborhood, police sources told CBS Philadelphia on Friday.

Investigators have been focused on a home on the 5200 block of Burton Street in the city's Wissinoming section day in and day out.

Police are trying to determine if there is a connection to a woman that was killed eight years ago.

Sources say the remains that were discovered were buried in layers and layers of concrete.

The weather conditions also hindered the investigation, according to sources.

CBS Philadelphia has learned that the basement flooded from the recent rain. Crews had to pump it all out.

On Friday, a hose was seen coming out of the home's basement window.

Investigators say they found a hoarding situation.

Neighbors say the home was filled with trash.

"All this kind of garbage coming out of that house," neighbor Elizabeth Padilla said.

"Trash, three dumpsters of it, they took out of here," another neighbor said. "The house was piled with trash."

The Department of Licenses and Inspections was also on the scene to ensure the home was secure before investigators started digging up the concrete.

Neighbors have been horrified watching this unfold next to their homes for days as many questions remain unanswered.

"I'm really concerned about this," one neighbor said. "It bothers me because it's my next-door neighbor. I mean you don't know what happens behind closed doors."

While police have been at the home for a few days, the investigation is expected to take a while.
