Hear Philly: Furry Friends In The Spotlight At Puppy Love Valentine's Party

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- When  buying gifts and planning fun activities for your loved one this Valentine's Day, don't forget about the other loved one in your life - your dog!

On February 12th, Smokin' Betty's and Devil's Alley Bar & Grille present the 7th Annual Puppy Love Valentine's Party at the 23rd Street Armory in Center City.

"You purchase a ticket, and the ticket entitles you and the love of your life - which is your dog - to attend the party," explains Susan Schlisman, who owns both venues presenting the event. "All the funds, and I do mean every last penny, goes to help fund the SPCA."

Schlisman used to volunteer at the SPCA, which allowed her to not only see first-hand how much they do for the animals, but also how much they are in need of financing, which is one of the reasons this event was started. Another reason, she says...

"It's a great way to meet people. When you have a dog, everybody talks to everybody else when they have dogs so it's a great way to socialize and meet people, so I put it all together."

There will be plenty of activities for the dogs, including the doggie red carpet, a doggie fashion show and a pet trick event. Of course, doggie bags will be given out as well.

There are also activities for the dog-lovers in attendance, including a silent auction, live music, a Smak Parlour, and food and drink.

Schlisman says this is truly a great way to spend Valentine's Day. "It's different, unique, and reasonably inexpensive. It's just a fun, offbeat way to give back and to help the whole pet community, all with the love of your life - your dog."

If you don't have a "date" for the party, the PSPCA will pair you up with an adorable dog in need of a home for the evening.

Those in attendance also have a chance to adopt a dog, or a cat, right at the event, which takes place from 6-10 p.m.

To purchase tickets and get more information, you can visit the Smokin' Betty's website or the Devil's Alley Bar & Grille website. You can also do both, as well as donate money anytime, by visiting pspca.org.
