Former Philadelphia Traffic Court Judge Sentenced For Corruption

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A former Philadelphia Traffic Court judge, recently acquitted of ticket fixing, has been sentenced in federal court in another unrelated corruption case.
Robert Mulgrew, 56, admitted stealing state grant funds that he claimed were being used to beautify his Dickinson Square neighborhood in South Philadelphia.
Mulgrew, with his wife, adult children and a courtroom full of supporters looking on, has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.
Prosecutor Paul Gray says Mulgrew mis-used nearly $200,000 in grant funds to enrich himself, his family, friends and others:
"This is a man who stole $3,700 worth of grant funds after he was serving on Traffic court. After he was finished dealing with the grant and he's become a judge, he is still stealing grant funds. apparently, Wawa, Dunkin Donuts, essentially buying his breakfast on the way to Traffic Court every morning and charging it off to the grant."
Mulgrew, again acquitted of ticket fixing, was convicted of lying to investigators in the other case, and he is still awaiting sentencing for that. He'll report to prison in September.
