Inspectors To Determine If Homes Are Safe To Live In Following Flooding In Bucks County

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)  —David Mullen was one of the many people rescued from his apartment by first responders during Monday's storms in Bucks County.

"Uh oh, what do I do now," Mullen said he asked himself as the water from the flood rushed through his apartment.

He went back to his apartment at the Lafayette Gardens Complex in Bensalem for the first time on Tuesday to survey the damage.

"Firemen were going to every door and I realized we got to get out," Mullen said. "So me and my brother packed bags and waited for them to come to the door and they started banging the door before I could even open it and then they pulled the boat right up to the door and I just fell in and they pulled me in, same with my brother."

Many buildings are now marked with yellow "X's." Police said inspectors will determine whether or not the homes are safe to live in.

The water that caused flooding at Lafayette Gardens receded on Tuesday.  The water came up so fast that people had to be rescued by the fire department.

The first responders had to use boats and military-style trucks to get people out of their homes, which included the elderly and children. Also, dozens of cars were submerged.

Bucks County officials said parts of the area got nine inches of rain.

"I've never seen anything like it before," said Victor Colon, who was displaced by the flooding. "Dude, I literally woke up getting ready to work and I just seen water filling up. My car is underwater. It's bad."

"We live right behind the creek so everything filled up and literally the water just piled up everywhere," he added.

Dionna Miller, who was also displaced by the flooding, said it was a scary moment.

"I feel bad for people who lost possessions," she said. "Everybody is OK and that's what matters. These are just materials that are gone."

The Red Cross said they have assisted more than 50 people.
