Final US Airways Flight Begins Journey From Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — US Airways is about to go into aviation history. The final flight of the US AIrways fleet has begun it's journey.

Flight 1939 left Philadelphia at 10:36 a.m., and is making stops in Charlotte, North Carolina, Phoenix, and San Francisco before returning to Philadelphia Saturday.

That's when US Airways merges with American Airlines.

AA spokesman Ross Feinstein says, "Beginning tomorrow, all flights will be American Airlines flights, even though we still have a lot painting of aircraft to do throughout 2016, you'll see there will be no US Airways signage at any airport worldwide."

The flight's number is to commemorate the year that the original airline was born. All American Aviation was formed in Pittsburgh that year, but has also been known over the years as Allegheny Airlines, US Air, and then US Airways.
