Sources: Feds Request Kenney Campaign Records In Connection To Dougherty, Henon Raids
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Records relating to the campaign of former city councilman, now Mayor Jim Kenney, will soon be in the hands of federal investigators. Kenney took over the mayor's office in January.
Sources tell CBS 3 Eyewitness News that investigators are interested in campaign documents.
Mayor Kenney Predicts Some School Workers Will Be Welcomed With Open Arms
This latest information about the mayor's campaign, comes three weeks after FBI agents raided the headquarters of IBEW Local 98, union boss John Dougherty's house and two of Philadelphia City Councilman Bobby Henon's offices.
Henon has stayed silent. Dougherty spoke to cameras as agents raided his home.
"I've been under scrutiny my whole life and I don't understand why," Dougherty said. "Maybe it's because I win too much."
Authorities have been tight lipped about what they are looking for. Sources say the investigation continues and that the Kenney request is related to the Dougherty and Henon raids.
Eyewitness News has also confirmed that authorities took documents from the office of John Dougherty's chiropractor, a man by the name of Dr. Jim Moylan. Dougherty's spokesman, Frank Keel, released a statement and said in part, "neither Dr. Moylan, nor anyone associated with IBEW Local 98, knows why the government is interested in him. Jim Moylan is John Dougherty's chiropractor and a dear, personal friend for more than 20 years."
Eyewitness News reached out to Kenney's mayoral campaign. A spokesperson inside the campaign said that they are cooperating with federal investigators.
