Family Of Woman Killed In Holmesburg Hit-And-Run Seek Help

By Charlotte Huffman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The family of a South Philadelphia woman killed Tuesday evening in a hit and run in Holmesburg spoke to Eyewitness News with their plea for help.

"Whoever did it just come forward and tell us. On our holiday, do something for us," said the victim's father, Constantino "Gus" Pozzi.

Police are looking for the driver of the truck that struck and killed 33 year-old Theresa Pozzi as she walked across State Road in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened just before 5:30 Tuesday night near the Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility.

"If anyone saw anything, a license tag or anything, any more of a description, please come forward," pleaded Pozzi's sister, Carol Rescigno.

Pozzi's family says she was visiting her boyfriend in prison and was headed to the bus stop to meet up with family and go Christmas shopping.

Pozzi did not use the crosswalk, according to police.

She was critically injured and taken to Aria Health Torresdale Campus where she was pronounced dead.

"I saw her walk up to the center line, and then she was gone. And then her cell phone and purse hit my car," witness Linda Alfonsi told Eyewitness News.

Alfonsi and at least one other woman stopped to help but said the driver who hit Pozzi never even hit his/her brakes.

"I'd like to thank the people who stayed with my daughter from the bottom of my heart.  It does give me some comfort to know that my daughter did not die alone and she was not left on the side of the road like she was nothing," said Anna Pozzi, the victim's mother.

Police say the vehicle that hit Pozzi was headed north on State Road.

It's described as a late 80's or early 90's, dark-colored, pickup or tow truck.

The truck is missing a headlight, which authorities found at the accident scene.

Police are looking at surveillance cameras in the area to locate the truck and its driver who faces vehicular homicide charges.

"To these women or men who were there and did not leave her alone -- thank you. For the person who knew they clearly hit her -- you are heartless. You are cruel and God will make his way to you whoever you are," said Rescigno.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Accident Investigation at 215-685-3180.
