Drexel Hill High School Starts Cyber Snow Days Program

DREXEL HILL, Pa. (CBS) - Snow days may be a thing of the past for a Drexel Hill high school. A new program has been launched where students are given assignments online and get credit for being in school.

Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School went live for the first time on Thursday with the cyber snow days program. Students were not physically in school, but did school work electronically.

"The students are provided with online assignments from their teachers. The teachers will post them," explains Principal Bill Brannick. "There will be virtual office hours that the teachers will be holding in case the students have any questions. And then the students are to turn their assignments in to the teachers electronically by 5 p.m."

The nearly 1,000 Bonner and Prendie students were suppose to have off for the President's Day holiday, but because four snow days have to be made up from earlier in the year, the new cyber snow days program is being utilized.

Brannick says if the pilot program cyber snow days is successful, it could serve as a model for other schools.
