Doug Pederson Ranked 3rd Worst Coach In NFL

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Yikes.

He hasn't even coached a game in the NFL yet, but Doug Pederson is already taking heat from the media.

USA Today recently ranked the NFL coaches from worst to best and the new Eagles' coach came in at No. 30, or third worst in the NFL. Only the Titans' Mike Mularkey (No. 32) and the Buccaneers' Dirk Koetter (No. 31) were ranked lower.

The skepticism surrounding Pederson comes from his lack of coaching experience. Pederson has just five years of NFL coaching experience: one as the Eagles' quality control coach, one as the Eagles' quarterbacks coach, and three as the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator. And all his NFL coaching tenure is under former Eagles head coach Andy Reid, who primarily called the offensive plays.

Before joining the Eagles' staff in 2009, Pederson was the head coach of Calvary Baptist Academy, a private high-school in Louisiana.

Reid was ranked 10th, just one spot ahead of another ex-Eagles coach Chip Kelly.

The top-five coaches in the NFL, according to USA Today, are (from No. 1 to No. 5): Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, Bruce Arians, Mike Zimmer, and Sean Payton. Zimmer is the only somewhat surprising name on that list.
