Dom Giordano Talks To Leader Of Philadelphia Protest

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Asa Khalif, one of the leaders of the "Philly is Baltimore" protests, promised demonstrations, like Thursday night's march through Center City, would continue to draw attention to police brutality and misconduct in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray.

Khalif told Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT the protesters are demanding equal treatment under the law and they will continue to inconvenience some people if that is necessary.

"We went to Rittenhouse Square, and I'm sorry if some of the people were disturbed drinking their little lattes on their happy hour, but I really don't give a crap about that. We were there to make a statement that it was our street, the power is in the people, and we're going to continue to disrupt until we get our justice."

He promised the protests would continue and hinted they may attempt to shut down 95 or 76 to get their message heard.

"We need to let the system know that we are oppressed and we are tired of being oppressed. We are tired of racial discrimination against black and brown people and if it means inconveniencing a few people on the expressway or a lot of people, for that matter, I really don't care."

Khalif also pointed out his movement is about promoting and protecting everyone's right to justice.

"We need to send a message that black lives matter at this point. Yes, we do know, and I agree 100 percent, that all lives matter. I have been on the forefront of the the 'All Lives Matter' movement in terms of racial discrimination or when it comes to discrimination against LGBT people or women or the poor."
