PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Dilworth Plaza, on the western apron of Philadelphia City Hall, officially reopened today as Dilworth Park.

Hundreds attended the opening of the brand new, renovated public space.  It took 2½ years for the massive makeover.

"I love the café," said one woman.  "I love the outdoor chairs."

Paul Levy, head of the Center City District, says they still have a little more work to do on the plaza.

"We have about six to eight weeks' more work at the southern end," he told KYW Newsradio today.  "There's a whole green lawn that will open on or about October 15th, (and) a walkway and a tree grove to the south that will be opening just before Thanksgiving."

And Levy said a centerpiece of the park is a combination fountain and playspace:

"Our design team has created a completely flat surface where different individual jets of water pop up -- six different panels."

He said kids will be permitted to play in the dancing water jets.
