Commuters Await Word On Possible SEPTA Strike

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- SEPTA and TWU Local 234 negotiators have finished talking for the day, and will resume tomorrow, in efforts to head off a possible strike that would idle 5,000 workers on the city, suburban and frontier divisions, leaving nearly a million riders looking for another way to get where they are going. SEPTA regional rail trains would keep running.
Both sides talked for more than five hours from noon through 5 p.m. at the Wyndham Hotel before leaving for the day.
The union on Monday promised 24 hours notice of any decision to strike, indicating they would announce whether they would continue talking or strike on Friday.
Major issues include contributions to the pension fund, medical care and wages.
The last Septa strike on November 3, 2009 lasted six days.
