Coastal Storm Approaching The Delaware Valley

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Here comes the nor'easter! For many in the area, this term evokes fear in the heart and mental images of piles of snow. Not this time around! Our early autumn coastal system is a wind and rain maker for sure, but the storm isn't undergoing rapid intensification and shouldn't bring any severe impacts. In fact, it's actually delivering some much needed rain to the area, and right now those amounts look to top out at around 2", meaning it's just enough but not too much. While we may encounter some ponding on the roads after the heaviest downpours, flooding shouldn't be much of an issue with this system.

The worst of this storm will be felt early Thursday morning, as bands of heavy, windswept rain push through the region from south to north. This will limit visibility and cause puddles on the roads, leading to a very slow morning commute. We will also be dealing with low clouds and even some fog issues, so things will be very slow. The heaviest rain will fall between 4am and 10am Thursday, and then we'll see it gradually taper to showers in the afternoon. We expect around an inch of rain in the city and suburbs, with closer to 2 inches down the shore, but much like in a snowstorm, it all depends on where the heaviest bands set up.

The good news? Once we make it through a raw, rainy Thursday, conditions improve Friday and we're on our way to a sunny, mild weekend with highs in the 80's both days!
