Children Make Most Of Day Off After Snow Closes Schools

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Whether it was indoors or outside, many children in the region were enjoying their day off from school due to the threat of snow.

A snow-covered hill along Kelly Drive was a hot spot form many kids.

I was really bummed out when I found out the snow storm was a bust," said 11-year-old Amelia Cucchiara. "But there is still good sledding, kind of."

Seven-year-old Cooper Loubier was having a friendly sledding competition with his little brother Emmett.

"The polar bear sled is the fastest," said Cooper. "The slowest is the saucer."

And it was a day of learning the science of snow, including pressure systems for kids at the Franklin Institute.

"We are studying air in our science class in school," said second-grader Keough Best of Northern Liberties.

And now they were learning a little more about it on their day off. And when it comes to snow...

"It comes down from the sky, and it is very fun to eat and play with," Keough said, "unless it's yellow."

A good thing to know.

For other kids, it was a day to take in a movie at home or in theaters.
