Chester County Man Charged With Murder And Attempted Rape Of His Elderly Grandmother

LOWER OXFORD, Pa. (CBS) -- A 23-year-old Chester County man is facing numerous charges including first degree murder and attempted rape in connection with the stabbing death of his 81-year-old grandmother.

Police say Kevin Havelow gave them a full confession, in the criminal complaint they allege he showed them how he killed his grandmother, and they say he described the two-handed stabbing motion as being similar to the motion of the 80s arcade game "Donkey Kong."

Police were called to the home around 2:30 a.m. for a report of a rape in progress. Investigators say, when Havelow got home after using drugs with a friend, he got in argument with his mother. They allege he tackled her, and tried to sexually assault her.

His sister helped their mother fend him off, says Chester County district attorney Tom Hogan.

"The defendant then attacked his elderly grandmother, a woman who could only get around with a walker."

Investigators say he tried to sexually assault his grandmother, before getting multiple knives from the kitchen and stabbing her more than 20 times.

Police say last month, Havelow voluntarily committed himself to Brandywine Hospital after expressing a desire to hurt himself.
