CBS News Poll: Majority Of Americans Support Sending Ground Troops To Battle ISIS

NEW YORK, NY (CBS) – Americans want action on ISIS.

That's what a new CBS News poll reveals.

According to the poll, which surveyed more than 1,000 adults by phone earlier this month, 65% of Americans see the radical Islamic group as a major threat. That's up from 58% in October.

What's more, the majority of Americans now say they'd support sending U.S. ground troops into Iraq and Syria to fight ISIS, with the most significant increase among Democrats and independents.

CBS News reports that, back in October, 49% of independents and 56% of Democrats did not approve of sending ground troops, but this new poll had 50% of Democrats and 53% of independents favoring the use of ground troops.

Finally, two-thirds of those polled think Congress should pass the military authorization bill President Obama requested from Congress. That bill would allow the U.S. to use ground troops for specific operations for a three year time period.
