Carli Lloyd: Megan Rapinoe Is Courageous

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - US Soccer star Carli Lloyd praised Megan Rapinoe of the National Women's Soccer League for her decision to protest during the National Anthem before games.

Lloyd, during an interview with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said it's a good thing that she is using her voice to effect change.

"We do have an amazing platform in which we can express our concerns about something we're passionate about. What Megan is doing is courageous. I know that's it not an easy thing that she's doing. I've had several talks with her, all positive, she knows where I'm coming from. I understand where she's coming from. So, it's all good and I think she's trying to figure out ways to make change and to do good things, which is great."

She also stated there are challenges that female athletes face when it comes to speaking out on certain issues that male athletes do not encounter.

"I think it's different. There's a way that people view females and that there's a way that we have to act in how we respond to questions and all of that. It's definitely, I think, different. They're not used to female athletes speaking their minds. They're not used to female athletes being really confident in themselves. It's definitely different."
