Blog: Philly Real Estate Taxes Due March 31st

By Jim Donovan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The Philadelphia Department of Revenue is reminding property owners that March 31 is the deadline to pay their 2016 Real Estate Taxes. Starting April 1, unpaid Real Estate taxes can start to accrue interest and penalty charges.

Along with the Real Estate Taxes deadline, two assistance programs also have a due date of March 31:

Real Estate Tax Installment Program – Those who own and occupy their homes can pay their annual real estate taxes in monthly installments. Income guidelines apply.

However, all senior citizens (65 years or older) are eligible, regardless of income.

Real Estate Tax Deferral Program – Residents who own and occupy their homes and whose real estate taxes have increased significantly can postpone payment of the increased amount that is above 15%.  Payment on the excess amount can be deferred until transfer or sale of the property.

Additional Real Estate Tax assistance programs are available at www.phila.gov/revenue.

Homeowners are encouraged to pay their Real Estate Tax online at www.phila.gov/pay. To pay online, taxpayers will need their:

  • Account number (found on their Real Estate Tax bill)
  • Email address
  • Bank's nine-digit routing number
  • Checking/Savings account number

A service fee of $0.35 will be charged to the account. Credit/debit cards are also accepted. Additional fees will apply.
