Bensalem Man Facing Homicide Charges For Alleged Portable Generator-Induced Death Of Mother

BENSALEM, Pa., (CBS) -- Police have charged a 30-year-old Bensalem man with homicide, accusing him of intentionally causing the death of his mother by utilizing a portable generator.

Bensalem Police Sergeant Andrew Aninsman says 30-year-old Koustantinos Yiambilis turned the generator on inside of his mother's home at the Longmeadow Apartments late Monday night.

"Producing carbon monoxide, which is poisonous," Aninsman said.

Officers arrived, searched the apartment Yiambilis was in and police say they found his 59-year-old mother Karen Yiambilis unconscious on a bedroom floor. She later died at the hospital.

"At this point we're not going to speculate as to what his motive was. We're still conducting an investigation on it. The investigation obviously is going to continue, but at this point we have reason to believe that Koustantinos intentionally caused the death of his mother," Aninsman said.

Four apartments were evacuated as well.

Yiambilis is charged with homicide, risking a catastrophe, reckless endangerment and other offenses. He was hospitalized and police say he'll be going from his hospital room straight to a jail cell, detained without bail.
