Bacon And Tomato Scram, $6.99

Down Home Diner
Reading Terminal Market

Hey, you can find 2,000 decent bacon omelets in this town – and I've probably tried half of them. But my favorite, and a true bargain at the price, is this gem found at a Reading Terminal Market mainstay.

Start with the perfectly cooked barnyard-fresh eggs, sharp cheddar and diced tomato. But it's the bacon that makes it all work. Too often, drowning bacon in omelets leaves them soggy or chewy. But Down Home keeps it perfectly crisp.  Add some fresh fruit and home fries (what? No onions?) and it's about the best breakfast in town.

No omelet will win this contest, but this one deserves a mention. Anywhere the waitress's T-shirt reads "I love bacon" is okay by me.

Score: 83/100
