3-Month-Old Baby, Toddler Killed In Wilmington Rowhouse Fire

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) --  Delaware fire authorities say two young children were killed after fire ripped through their family's two-story rowhome, located on the 500 block of North Monroe Street in Wilmington.

Officials say an EMS unit responding to an unrelated emergency saw the fire and called emergency dispatch at about 4 p.m.

Nine family members were living in the home, seven of them, authorities say, were children.

Rescuers were able to reach one child who was transported to St. Francis hospital for evaluation and has since been released to relatives

Firefighters searching for victims inside the burning house found a 3-month-old baby girl and a 3-year-old toddler, deceased from the fire.

A 37-year-old woman is listed in critical but stable condition at Crozier Hospital where she is being treated for burns.

A Wilmington Police officer suffered smoke inhalation when he tried to rescue trapped victims.

He has since been evaluated and released from the hospital.

The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing and.

Red Cross officials say they will help provide emergency needs, including food, clothing and lodging as needed.
