As Power Comes Back On, Many Cable Customers Still Blacked Out

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The heat and lights may be back on, but for a number of homes and businesses in the Delaware Valley, TVs, computers, and in some cases, phones, are still disconnected.

A Comcast spokesman wasn't forthcoming with outage numbers, but Verizon spokesman Lee Gierczynski was, telling KYW Newsradio, "At the end of last week, Verizon saw a peak of about 10,000 repair calls from customers scattered across the five county region."

Gierczynski says outage reports generally don't come in until the power comes back on. And, just as it is with your power company, your cable company won't know your service is out unless you report it.

"They can contact Verizon at 1-800-VERIZON, or they can visit Verizon online at Verizon.com/liveagent, and they can submit a repair request that way."

Gierczynski says Verizon repair crews have been working 12 hour shifts, making steady progress re-hanging wires and replacing damaged or downed poles.

As for getting a credit for the time your cable was out, both companies suggest you contact customer service.
