Area Universities Opening Arms To This Year's Incoming Freshmen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Area universities are getting hit by the first wave of incoming freshmen.

At Temple University, campus police kept traffic moving as parents and students unloaded their vehicles and headed toward their respective dorms.

Like most wide-eyed freshmen, seventeen-year-old Kira Gensler is trying to keep up with the whirlwind of activity that comes with this new chapter in life.

"Moving in, it's chaotic and it's fun," she said today.  "I've been waiting. I'm playing lacrosse, so I'm ready to get into the swing of things.  It's definitely bittersweet.  I'm excited, but it's nerve-wracking."

Kira will have plenty of shoulders to lean on.  She is a member of Temple's largest freshman class, nearly 4,500 strong.

And Michael Scales, the school's associate vice president for student affairs, says there'll be room for more.

"If you look on the east or the west side of Broad Street, you'll notice a large amount of construction still going on -- a large amount of available housing inventory for students," he points out.

Move-ins will continue through the end of the week, up to the first day of classes.
